To allow ourselves to be truly in touch with where we already are, no matter where that is, we have got to pause in our experience long enough to let the present moment sink in; long enough to actually feel the present moment, to see it in its fullness, to hold it in awareness and thereby come to know and understand it better. Only then can we accept the truth of this moment of our life, learn from it and move on. ~J. Kabat-Zinn~

Where are you now?

Are you aware of your surroundings? You may be sitting on a chair or a sofa – are they comfortable? Soft or hard? What colour is the fabric? What kind of texture can you sense when you touch it? Are you in front of your computer or reading in your phone? Is it warm or cold? Are you alone? Can you hear the music playing, or people chatting, or any other sound coming from your surroundings?

What sensations do you feel in your body? Is there any tension? Are you comfortable? Is your body relaxed? How about your jaw – is it loosen or clenched? Can you feel your heart beating? Do you like its rhythm? Let’s focus on your breath for a moment. Do you take long slow breaths, or is your breath shallow and fast? Do you like the way your chest is expanding when you inhale? Why?

How often do you check in with your body and your surroundings? How often you are fully present in your body, with complete awareness of what’s going on around you? How often do you take time to stop the ‘doing’ and simply allow yourself to be? Do you pay attention to yourself – your feelings in the given moment, your breath and the sensations in your body? How often? Several times a day? Every other week? Once a month? Never?

Our internal monologue often drifts away either to the past, where it focuses on re-living the history, perhaps even trying to fix some parts of it, or to the future, usually worrying if you have strength to cope with whatever life throws at you next. We barely live in the present moment consciously.

All you really have is The Now

Have you ever wondered what happens with you when you are fully present in the now? You may simply choose to to pay attention to What Is and appreciate it. You have the choice to do so.

Whether you think of your past or future, you do it in the present. By sacrificing the Now-Time in order to re-live What-Has-Been or foresee What-Could-Be, you miss the sensations this moment offers you. The Now has the power to change the perspective of your past (however, it will not change the past), and to create a positive expectation and acceptance of what comes to existence next (however, this doesn’t mean you know exactly what the future holds for you). Everything that happens to you, happens to you Now. The anxiety, stress and fear of what might happen in the future – you experience them Now. The regret, disappointment and guilt of what have happened in the past – you experience them Now. The Now is all that is. The Now is all you have. And you have the choice, through your focus and loving awareness, to create the best Now you could ever imagine for yourself.

Mindfulness – full acceptance of the Here and Now

Mindfulness is about the moment-to-moment experience. It’s the awareness of What Is and curiosity about the life as it unfolds in front of you. It is a peaceful and non-judgemental state of being, the acceptance of what is here and now, without labelling it as good or bad.

Mindful techniques and tools help redirect your focus and become present in The Now. They give you ability to be aware of what is happening within you as well as around you right now, without getting carried away by it. Each person has a choice to be – or not- present, even if they may think it is out of their control. The more you practice, however, the easier it is to ‘just be’.

It is fascinating how a simple choice of being present in The Now impacts our mood, those around us and the way we perceive the future or soothe the recollections of the past. The more present we are in our bodies, the more aware we are of what is happening around us in any given moment. It is not necessarily about knowing; it is about being comfortable with not knowing and feeling at peace with it.

LOA and Mindfulness

Law of Attraction states, that you attract what you think of and what you feel most of the time. The present moment in the only moment of time when you can think and feel. When you choose to focus on the memories from the past or imagine scenarios for the future, every feeling these thoughts create you experience in The Present Moment. Those feelings are neither your past nor your future; they become Your Now, your current reality. And whatever you feel in The Now, you attract more of it.

If you are present and appreciate What Is, if you feel satisfied with whoever you are and whatever you have right now, or even if you drift away but feel at ease when memorising your past or feel excitement for what’s coming, the Universe will match the people and opportunities for you to feel more appreciation, more satisfaction, more ease and more excitement.

If you, however, do not like who you are and notice the absence of the things you want, if you worry about what may happen or feel disappointment towards yourself for your past choices, the Universe will provide more of situations not to like, more lack, more worries and even more disappointment.

Whatever you think of you attract; whether it is wanted or unwanted, you will have more of it. The Present Moment gives you an opportunity to direct your attention to what feels good, so that you can create the future you desire. It is your choice. It’s the thought that you choose to focus on that creates the feeling within you, and that feeling directly impacts your point of attraction. The better you feel, the higher your energy frequency becomes and you attract more of what you want. The opposite is also true: the worse you feel, the lower the energy frequency that you’re at and you attract more of what you don’t want.

The Now provides the power to choose how you want to feel, which determines what kind of future you will experience. Mindfulness offers techniques, which help you slow down the thought process and allow you to make a choice of what you focus on and how you want to feel, so that you can attract more of it.

How do I use mindfulness in my work with clients?

I guide them to purposely pay attention to the present moment, and learn how to accept life as it unfolds. Satisfaction is the evidence of being on the right track. It’s all about being satisfied in life.

That’s why you want everything – lots of money, a wonderful lover, good health and beautiful body, travel to far-away-lands and more; because you believe they will bring you happiness. However, the journey doesn’t begin when you have the money or when you have that lover. The journey begins the very moment a thought comes to life. The way you think of it determines how you feel about it, and those feelings either help you get what you want, or bring more of what you don’t want.

Mindfulness, meditation, relaxation, breathing techniques – these are just some of the tools that I use while guiding my clients on their path. If you feel like these techniques might be beneficial to you, feel free to contact me and schedule your first session.
